LIFE AT NEW DAY SOBER LIVING
What to Expect
Structured Phase System
New Day Sober Living operates on a structured phase system designed to promote steady growth, accountability, and increasing independence.
All residents begin in Phase 1 – Assimilation. During this phase, the focus is on stabilizing, integrating into the house culture, and fully engaging in a program of recovery. Residents are expected to obtain a sponsor within the first week and begin actively participating in their recovery work.
As residents meet the expectations of their current phase — including recovery engagement, employment (when clinically appropriate), and house participation — they earn increased freedoms and privileges. Advancement is based on demonstrated consistency and progress, not simply time in the home.
This structure creates clear expectations while encouraging personal responsibility and long-term growth.
Core Expectations
Recovery First
Active participation in a program of recovery is essential. Residents attend meetings, work closely with a sponsor, and consistently engage in their recovery process. Growth in recovery is the foundation for advancement through the phase system.
Accountability & Discipline
Residents are expected to follow house guidelines, complete assigned chores, participate in house meetings, and maintain consistency in their commitments — whether clinical, vocational, or personal.
Clean & Structured Living Environment
Each resident shares responsibility for maintaining a clean, organized home. A structured environment supports clarity, discipline, and mutual respect.
Financial Responsibility
As residents progress, they are expected to contribute financially, pay rent on time, and develop healthy money management habits. The goal is increasing independence and self-sufficiency over time.
Experiential & Recreational Growth
Recovery at New Day includes learning how to live well. Through organized outings, physical activity, and shared experiences, residents discover that sobriety can be engaging, connected, and fulfilling.
Healthy Relationships
Residents are encouraged to develop strong communication skills, emotional awareness, and appropriate boundaries with family, peers, and employers.
The First Few Weeks
The initial weeks at New Day focus on stabilization and assimilation into the community.
During this time, residents will:
Become oriented to house structure and expectations
Obtain a sponsor within the first seven days
Begin actively engaging in a program of recovery
Participate consistently in recovery meetings and house accountability
For residents participating in higher levels of care (such as PHP), clinical engagement will be the primary focus during early stabilization. As individuals step down in care and progress through phases, additional responsibilities — including employment — are expected.
To support healthy integration, residents may be asked to limit outside distractions during the first week. Family visits should be coordinated with house management to ensure alignment with the resident’s recovery plan.
